Kitchen
Before
The original kitchen posed two problems: 1) a gas water heater (used to heat water and radiators), and 2) a floor which had an 8cm incline most visible when facing the window. It also had little room for storage, limited counter space, and no integrated area for eating at the counter. The layout of the appliances was also less than ideal, especially the stove which was quite far from the sink, and the dishwasher which blocked access to the sink when the door was open.

After
We decided to remove the gas heating system, which freed up enough space in the kitchen to install a double freezer and refrigerator while still allowing for plenty of storage and counter space. We levelled out the floors but instead of using a small step to enter the kitchen, we inclined one of the large floor tiles to create a subtle ramp that seamlessly connects the kitchen to the hallway. Given that the ceilings are 3.5 meters high, we chose extra tall cupboards, and extended the space above the freezer and refrigerator to include extra storage. The dishwasher is placed conveniently to the right of the sink, and the stove’s location in the center of the counter allows two people to prepare food at the same time. Suspended lights illuminate the breakfast bar.

Materials
Sage green was chosen for lower-storage areas as well as the refrigerator and freezer. The upper cabinets are white, lending a feeling of lightness and openness to the narrow space. Hardware is a soft brushed gold, adding a touch of warmth The counters are soft-white quartz with a subtle marble-like pattern. The floors are sand-colored ceramic tiles with a stone-textured finish. The stools are made with curving, light-colored wood in harmony with the the airy vibe of the space.
