Hallway Bathroom
The Challenge
To the right of the bathtub, there was a 67 cm x 46 cm space that was serving no purpose. I knew I wanted to replace the bathtub with a large shower, so I decided to close off the space on the bathroom side and open it up to the hallway to create a storage closet/pantry.

Before
The original bathroom poorly maximised the available space. The sink was small with no storage, the bathtub was surrounded by spaces which collected dust and were difficult to use in terms of storage. There was no heating system or towel warmers and no place to store towels or other bathroom staples. The tiles were busy and not applied at even heights. As a result, the bathroom appeared to be visually cut in two.

After
The odd storage area to the right of the bathtub was walled up to create a hallway storage closet. The bathtub replaced with a large shower with sliding glass doors. Three out of the four walls feature medium-sized white tiles which give a light, airy feeling to a bathroom which has no windows. For the interior shower wall, I chose blue tiles that have an irregular texture and color, giving the impression of being handcrafted. I chose to install them vertically to emphasize the height of the wall. The floor tiles are ceramic but resemble sand-colored stone. The white wall tiles create a clean and open feel that highlights the other design elements in the bathroom. The vanity is made of wood to add warmth and texture to the bathroom. All the fixtures have a sleek, modern chrome finish.

Choice of materials
I wanted my materials to connect with the Mediterranean in terms of texture, variety of materials, and colors. The texture and colors are repeated throughout other rooms in the home, giving the apartment a sense of visual continuity.
